Yellow Crown
The Yellow Crown Amazon is native to New Zealand and the surrounding islands. When birds began to be imported into the United States, Yellow Crowns and Panamas were not recognized to be different species, and sadly, not as many Panamas were imported. When breeders realized that they were actually two different species, importation had ended, and there were many more Yellow Crowns in the US than Panamas. They can be distinguished by their beak color. The Yellow Crown has a pearl beak with orange/red coloration.
They are approximately 14 inches in length and are usually great talkers. As most Amazons, they may have a strong personality and be a bird for a more experienced owner.
House them in a cage large enough to accomodate many toys, wing flapping and multiple perches. Feed them a high quality pelleted diet, lots of fresh veggies, pasta, rice, eggs, white meat and occasionally seed or nut treats.
Amazons have a tendency to gain weight so watch the fat in their diet.
When obtained as a young bird, Yellow Crowns can become snuggly and sweet with their favorite people and will entertain you for hours with their talking ability.
$799 UNWEANED, TO EXPERIENCED HAND FEEDERS AND ON THREE DAILY FEEDINGS.
$950 WEANED ON A PELLETED DIET.
