SCARLEQUIN MACAWS

 This beautiful hybrid Macaw is obtained when a Scarlet Macaw is bred to a Harlequin Macaw. A Harlequin is also a Hybrid, a pairing of the Blue & Gold to the Greenwing. Scarlequins are therefore a mixture of Blue & Gold, Greenwing, and Scarlet Macaw all in one.
These large Macaws usually display variations of oranges, yellows, reds, greens and blues. Some may be more yellow, some more orange and their price can vary due to exceptional coloration.
Sweet and gentle like the Green Wings, but not as large, they should be weaned onto a natural pelleted diet, with lots of high quality seed/nut mixture and fresh vegetables and fruit. They will also enjoy pasta, well cooked chicken, eggs, rice, and most healthy people food.
A very well made cage is a necessity for most Macaws, as they can be very destructive. Obviously, due to their own size, a cage must also be very large. They require a large toy budget, as they are great chewers, and must be entertained with interesting and fun new toys often. Consider also a shower perch for your Macaw, as they usually love to bath, and need frequent bathing to keep their feathers and respiratory system in good health.
